Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What are the VO Services?

Recently, the International Virtual Observatory Alliance (IVOA) has made a conscious decision to use XML Web Services for future products as opposed to the previously prefered HttpGet protocol. Thus VO Services are Web Services with standard VO interfaces. Because the data models and the interfaces are being designed by the IVOA Working Groups, many of the VO Services described on these pages should be considered prototypes. If you are interested in the details or would like to contribute, please join the discussions on the IVOA Forum.
